Environmental Impact
Safeguarding the environment is essential.
As farmers, we know that safeguarding the environment is essential to protecting and preserving natural resources for future generations. We are committed to and take pride in responsibly producing high quality products to feed the growing world population.
Daily Sustainable Practices
Throughout our daily responsibilities, Lone Tree employs sustainable practices to reduce waste, minimize our environmental footprint, and increase efficient resource use.
This includes returning the manure produced by the sow unit back to the soil as organic fertilizer which enriches the soil and enables cropping with little purchased commercial fertilizer.
Crops are then grown on that land which are utilized in the hog’s feed thus creating a complete cycle and efficient use of resources.
We also compost waste material into field fertilizers which allows for a safe and biosecure farming system.
Our solar panels supply a portion of the energy needs of the farm.
Supporting Sustainability Research
Through Pork Checkoff, we help support research pertaining to the four pillars of environmental sustainability:
1) Carbon Footprint
2) Water Footprint
3) Air Footprint
4) Land Footprint
Over the past 50 years, the American pork industry has made significant reductions in its environmental impact.
