Our Story
Established in 1961
The Lone Tree family farm was established in 1961 by Ted & Virginia Zellmer south of Kansas City, Missouri. Ted was a hard-working entrepreneur who recognized the value of a diversified farming operation. Pork production was a key part of his business plan. He gained knowledge through his childhood experiences raising pigs and growing field crops and from the Agriculture Degree he earned from the University of Missouri.
A Family Tradition
Ted and Virginia’s two daughters grew up helping on the farm. One daughter, Peggy, earned a Degree in Agriculture and returned to the family farm along with her husband, Brent Heid.
Peggy and Brent Heid both have strong agricultural roots as part of their heritage. Previous generations in both families devoted their lives to caring for the land and the animals that depend on it. Continuing that tradition, Brent & Peggy raised four sons on the farm.
Lone Tree Farm Today
Over the years Brent drew on his Degrees in Agriculture Business to expand the operation to where it is today.
Lone Tree Farms produces corn, soybeans, and some small grains on their 2,000-acre farm. Lone Tree Pigs is a large farrow-to-wean hog operation selling piglets to independent producers.
The farm and the family’s leadership has been recognized with multiple awards for their contribution to the community and achievement within the industry.
